Olivia Colman admits it took a year for her Oscars win to sink in

‘It was such a head f***, I can’t believe it happened!’ Olivia Colman admits it took a year for her Oscars win to sink in

She became the new queen of Hollywood after scooping the Best Actress prize for her role as Queen Anne of Great Britain in The Favourite at the 91st Academy Awards in 2019.

And Olivia Colman has admitted it took a year for her Oscars win to sink in, insisting her triumph was ‘such a head f***’.

The actress, 47, who has since received acclaim for starring in The Crown and The Father, said in a new interview: ‘I can’t believe it happened. I went quiet. It is only a year later that it registered and now the little gold man is sitting in a cupboard.’

During the prestigious ceremony, the Peep Show star was overjoyed as she accepted her gong, beating out the industry’s finest, including her ‘idol’ Glenn Close.

Reaching out to little girls everywhere in her inspiring and sweet speech, Olivia said: ‘Any little girl who’s practicing your speech on the telly, you never know! I used to work as a cleaner and I spent quite a lot of my time imagining this.’

While she grew tearful and emotional during, the overwhelmed screen star was urged to wrap up her speech by Academy bosses – yet hilariously blew a raspberry and made a playful gesture at the teleprompter.

As she walked onto the stage, an excited Olivia said: ‘It’s genuinely quite stressful. This is hilarious. I got an Oscar’.

The screen star was also nominated for Best Supporting Actress during this year’s ceremony, but lost out to Youn Yuh-jung for her role in Minari.

Elsewhere in her discussion with The Mirror, the thespian recalled falling in love with her husband of 20 years, Ed Sinclair, after meeting at Cambridge University.

The TV and film star said: ‘I sort of stalked him. Which I don’t condone. It did work in our case. I remind him every day that he is a very lucky man.

‘I took three hours to get dressed every day. He was not aware of what was going on. Eventually I just told his friend to tell him I loved him and eventually his friend did.’

Paulina and Aaron’s red carpet debut came just days after it was first reported that they have been ‘quietly seeing each other for a few months’ — and it also marked the mother-of-two’s first time attending the Oscars as a guest, she revealed.

‘Although I have attended the Oscars before (as a fashion correspondent for the TV-Guide channel), this was my first time at the Oscars as an attendee,’ she explained, while noting that this year’s ceremony was ‘the most original ever’ thanks to the additional restrictions that had been put in place amid the pandemic.

Oscars 2021: Sound of Metal star Paul Raci is praised for using sign language on red carpet

Oscars 2021: Sound of Metal star Paul Raci is praised by fans for using sign language while speaking on the red carpet ahead of awards show

Paul Raci has been heaped with praise by fans for signing while he spoke on the red carpet at the 2021 Academy Awards on Sunday night.

The actor, 73, was nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his turn as Joe in Sound of Metal, which sees him play the head of a shelter for deaf recovering addicts and use sign language throughout the film.

While speaking to E!, Paul simultaneously signed as he said of director Darius Marder: ‘He worked on it for 14 years, he vetted it with deaf people all across the country, and still had a learning curve as we started filming it, having three deaf advisers on the set to get it right.

‘The deaf community has a saying, nothing about us without us, so I think he was very inclusive in that way, that’s what he did right.’

Paul added that he was impressed with Darius for ‘showing deaf people in a deaf sober house of all things’ on screen.

The actor is the hearing son of deaf parents and was raised to be fluent in American Sign Language.

Sound of Metal follows metal drummer Ruben (Riz Ahmed), and his struggle after losing his hearing and joins Joe’s shelter.

Paul lost out to Daniel Kaluuya, who won the Best Actor in a Supporting Role prize for his work on Judas And The Black Messiah, he also beat co-star Lakeith Stanfield, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Leslie Odom, Jr.

Another fan gushed: ‘#paulraci effortlessly and un-dramatically signing on the Red Carpet was beyond cool’

While one person added: ‘Paul Raci signing (ASL) as he’s speaking is so dope… and the black nail polish is such a rockstar touch to his look.’
