Mike Tyson tips Logan Paul to ‘get beat up pretty bad’ by Floyd Mayweather

Mike Tyson tips Logan Paul to ‘get beat up pretty bad’ by Floyd Mayweather when YouTuber-turned-boxer steps back into the ring in June – but plays down hopes he will fight controversial brothers, insisting: ‘I like those guys’

  • Mike Tyson believes that YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul is set to get badly hurt
  • Mayweather holds an unblemished professional record ahead of the June bout
  • Paul, meanwhile, has fought just once and lost to KSI by split decision in 2019

Mike Tyson has predicted that rookie Logan Paul will receive a heavy beating from Floyd Mayweather when the YouTuber-turned-boxer takes on the former five-weight world champion.

The two will face off on June 6 in a highly-anticipated grudge match and Tyson, who has long since insisted that Logan and his brother Jake are good for the sport, can see no way for the underdog to come out on top.

When questioned on the bout, Tyson also played down hopes he would want to face either of the two popular online personalities and underlined his respect for them.

Asked by TMZ Sports whether Paul could shock the boxing world, Tyson said: ‘No. He’s going to get beat up pretty bad.’

Mayweather, 44, will step back into the ring for the first time since 2017, when he beat UFC superstar Conor McGregor in the tenth round, and boasts an unblemished 50-0 professional record.

His opponent Paul, meanwhile, has fought just once and suffered defeat by split decision at the hands of fellow YouTuber KSI in November 2019.

Unsurprisingly, the shock match-up has generated plenty of criticism, although Tyson has admitted he is looking forward to watching.

‘Yeah, it’s going to be good,’ he added.

But despite both Paul siblings looking to broker more big-name fights, ‘Iron Mike’ has emphatically ruled himself out of the running.

Quizzed on the possibility of scrapping with either Logan or Jake, Tyson replied: ‘No, I like those guys, man.’

Tyson also insisted he wouldn't want to fight either of the Paul brothers, including Jake (above)

The stance comes as little surprise with Jake and Mayweather having worked together in the past. The 24-year-old took on Nate Robinson on the undercard of Tyson’s fight with Roy Jones Jr last November.

Logan, however, is adamant that he has at least a puncher’s chance of downing Mayweather in Miami.

‘After this fight I don’t want anyone to tell me something is impossible,’ Paul said.

‘I am representing the guy who was counted out, the guy who believed in himself so much that his unrelenting belief in himself propelled him to success. That’s me.

‘I don’t just think I can beat him. I know I can beat him.’

The press conference before the fight saw Mayweather sensationally see red and furiously lash out at youngster Jake, leaving him with an apparent swollen black eye following a brawl.

After Paul stepped up to Mayweather to call him out, he decided to get one over on the icon by stealing his hat and attempting to dash away. Bedlam then broke out with both camps coming to blows.

Security stepped in to separate both Paul and Mayweather with tensions reaching breaking point in full view of the cameras just weeks out from the big showdown.

Mayweather’s promotional team described the fight as a ‘historic crossover event’ as the YouTube boxing phenomenon continues to take over the sport in a Tweet earlier this week.

The undefeated great has not stepped in a ring since defeating kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in just over two minutes on New Year’s Eve 2018.

His fight with Paul is the third time that Mayweather has been involved in a crossover event in recent years, having also fought UFC icon Conor McGregor in a £215million fight back in August 2017, which he won via a 10th-round stoppage.

It has not yet been confirmed who will be fighting on the undercard of Mayweather’s showdown with Paul, but reports claim Jean Pascal’s rematch with Badou Jack for the WBA ‘regular’ light-heavyweight belt will feature on it.

Former unified super-welterweight champion Jarrett Hurd will also reportedly return to action against Luis Arias on the show while another celebrity bout has been rumoured as well.

Mayweather, who made in excess of $1billion throughout his illustrious career in the ring, explained why he decided to fight 26-year-old Paul last month.

The 44-year-old to the Disruptive Entrepreneur podcast: ‘I can fight a fighter right now and I can guarantee myself $35million (£25m).

‘I can eventually probably make $50million (£36m), for just a regular fight.

‘Or me and Logan Paul can go out, entertain, have fun and make nine figures $100million (£72m) or more.

‘Everybody thinks that ‘retired’ means at home with your feet up and picking up weight.

‘I prefer to go out, still entertain and have fun.

‘Just because I still go out, entertain and have fun doesn’t mean that I still wanna fight for 12 rounds.

‘I think we’ve got a six-round exhibition. I think it’s gonna be very entertaining for the people, I think people are gonna love it.

‘$35million for 12 rounds or $100million for six rounds – big difference.’

Logan is joined in the YouTube boxing world by his brother Jake and drew against KSI – who also rose to fame on the online platform – in his first ever boxing fight before losing their rematch in a professional ring back in 2019.
