Michael Bisping REJECTED an offer to box YouTuber Jake Paul because ‘it wasn’t enough money’

Michael Bisping REJECTED an offer to box YouTuber Jake Paul because ‘it wasn’t enough money’ as the UFC legend praises ‘smart’ internet star for ‘knowing how to p*** people off’

  • Michael Bisping rejected an offer to fight Jake Paul due to the low sum offered
  • Paul, 24, is pursuing a boxing career and has defeated three non-boxers
  • Bisping, 42, says he received an offer before Paul agreed to fight Ben Askren
  • The British fan-favourite praised Paul for ‘knowing how to p*** people off’
  • The YouTuber has riled Floyd Mayweather and Daniel Cormier in recent weeks

Michael Bisping has confirmed that he received an offer to fight YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul, but the UFC legend deemed the sum too low as the American pursued a bout with Ben Askren instead.

Paul, 24, has stirred fury among boxing and MMA fans after setting about a career in the ring. The YouTuber is undefeated in three professional bouts against non-boxers, most recently knocking out retired UFC star Askren inside the first round.

The Problem Child has been linked with a clash against Tommy Fury as well as Dillon Danis and Kamaru Usman, while he was involved in a bust-up with boxing great Floyd Mayweather in Miami this week.

And Bisping, Britain’s first and only UFC champion, has revealed that he had received an offer to take on the YouTuber, having been rumoured to take on Paul after he viciously knocked out former NBA star Nate Robinson.

‘I got offered a contract, it wasn’t enough money,’ the 42-year-old told LowKickMMA. ‘They made an offer and it was some decent cash. But, if I’m going to make a fool out of myself by boxing a YouTuber, then I’d want a bit more for that.’

Bisping retired in 2018 and has since pursued punditry roles with the UFC, often commentating Octagon-side for the organisation’s biggest events. The Count said that a fight with Paul would have been ‘free money’.

‘I’m not going to come out of retirement, but that’s essentially free money to me. If the number was big enough, then I’d be a fool not to go and pick up that money.’

‘But I wasn’t pursuing it. And I think if anything, I think Jake was very clever. I think he just used me to try and make it seem like he was looking for real challenges.

‘Because we got sent an offer and we countered with more than double. And we never heard anything again, and then we got the news that he’s fighting Ben Askren.’

Paul’s antics have angered several big personalities in boxing and MMA, including Mayweather and former UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier – who squared up to the 24-year-old at UFC 261 last month.

But Bisping has praised the American for his ‘smart’ venture into boxing.

‘Listen, good for Jake Paul,’ he added. ‘You can’t hate on the guy. Everyone is trying to get ahead in life, and he’s been smart enough to take his YouTube following and parlay it into a boxing career.

‘The guy is obviously passionate about the sport. He trains very hard. He’s a switched-on guy. He knows how to p*** people off and everyone being p***ed off, all that emotion, that transfers into dollars in the bank account.’

Kamaru Usman sends chilling warning to Jake Paul as pair continue war of words on Twitter

‘I can change your life in the worst way’: Kamaru Usman fires back at Jake Paul with chilling warning by claiming ‘this is how people truly get hurt’ after YouTuber-turned-boxer attempts to rile up UFC champion over ‘Disney kid’ comment

  • Kamaru Usman has sent a chilling warning to Jake Paul over facing him in a fight
  • Paul – a YouTuber-turned-boxer – has called out the UFC champ in recent weeks
  • Usman claimed he ‘wasn’t a Disney kid’ when challenged by ex-Disney star Paul
  • Paul responded by posting a picture of Usman with his daughter at Disney World
  • In response, Usman warned Paul he can change his life ‘in the worst way’

Kamaru Usman has issued a chilling warning to Jake Paul by claiming he can change his life ‘in the worst way’ as the war of words between the pair rumbles on.

After delivering a sensational KO win over Jorge Masvidal in the main event of UFC 261, Usman insisted that he was happy to take care of Paul after the YouTuber-turned-boxer had a heated confrontation with Daniel Comier during the event.

Paul accepted the challenge and tried luring Usman into a boxing fight if UFC president Dana White, who has been strictly against giving Paul any limelight, would allow it.

The UFC welterweight champion responded to Paul’s challenge by saying he ‘doesn’t do play fighting’ and that he ‘isn’t a Disney kid’ – referring to Paul’s past as being a television star for the company.

Paul continued the back-and-forth on Twitter by posting a picture of Usman posing for a photograph with his daughter and Mickey Mouse at Disney World, trying to contradict the Nigerian’s claims.

Once again, Usman responded to Paul over Twitter who continues to try and raise his own profile by trying to fight a current world champion in mixed martial arts.

‘I understand you think this is a game which is probably why you don’t realize that this is how people truly get hurt,’ Usman wrote on Twitter. ‘I don’t play fighting and I can change your life in the worst way.’

Paul is making a name for himself in the combat sports world by competing against big-name athletes in the ring.

He knocked out former NBA star Nate Robinson and followed it up with the heavy KO of Askren, who was almost exclusively a wrestling-based fighter in MMA.

Usman has not been known for his heavy hands but showed another level to his game in separating the dangerous Masvidal from consciousness.

There’s no doubt a bout with Paul would be hugely lucrative but the UFC are unlikely to sanction a cross-over fight for Usman, especially with the celebrity putting himself on the wrong side of Dana White.

He recently wrote: ‘In my third fight, I made more money in total pay than any fighter in UFC history.

‘Maybe it’s time to pay your fighters their fair share? No wonder they all want to get into boxing. Dana, you say you make the fights the fans want to see, so hurry up and make [Jon] Jones vs. [Francis] Ngannou. Pay them their fair share. $10 million purse for each guy plus pay-per-view.’

Paul is aware of how much traction he can get by playing the pantomime villain and was cage-side for Usman’s win over Masvidal.

Whether White will release any of his fighters from their contracts to compete with the 24-year-old is another matter entirely.

Speaking about Diaz, he told ESPN as per the Sun: ‘I think people will immediately write me off but they’re going to tune into watch.

‘It’s two massive names and it’s a massive pay-per-view. When people see me obliterate him (Diaz), their jaws are going to drop, they’re not going to know how to react and they’re going to think it’s rigged again.

‘At that moment in time, I’ll be undeniable to fight Conor McGregor because I beat the guy who beat him.

‘The Jake Paul vs Conor fight is a massive fight so I’m like why wait? I don’t need to be in this sport forever, I don’t need 100 fights so why wait, let’s do it right away.’

Paul holds a 3-0 boxing record after victories over Youtubers Deji and AnEnsonGib, before his 60 second knockout victory over Askren.

The 24-year-old has called out a number of UFC stars in recent times including Kamaru Usman, Tyron Woodley, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Daniel Cormier.

There has also been talk of a potential bout with Tyson Fury’s younger brother Tommy.

Diaz meanwhile is set to return to the octagon at UFC 262 when he takes on Leon Edwards.

It will be the 36-year-old’s return to the ring after he last fought in November 2019, when he fell to a TKO defeat to Jorge Misvidal.

Diaz shocked the world when he beat McGregor via submission at UFC 196, before the Irishman got his revenge over Diaz at UFC 202 winning via majority decision.

McGregor is next expected to face Dustin Poirier in a trilogy fight to headline UFC 264, after the latter won by second-round TKO at UFC 257 in January.

Since his victory, Paul has continued to agitate professional fighters in both the boxing and MMA world and most recently squared up with UFC legend Daniel Cormier.

He later took to Twitter to claim that White does not pay his UFC fighters enough for stepping in the octagon, and he responded by giving him a warning.

‘Listen, the kid is making money and makes people care. He makes people give a s***. I don’t hate the kid, I know people are very excited for the day when he gets clipped and gets knocked out.

‘It is coming. His 15 minutes are nearly up, but the kid is going to make some money. Good for him.’
