Bayern Munich’s incoming CEO Oliver Kahn rules out move for Erling Haaland this summer

Bayern Munich’s incoming CEO Oliver Kahn rules out move for Erling Haaland this summer and hits out at ‘unimaginable €100m package’ to prise the star striker from rivals Dortmund this summer

  • Bayern’s Oliver Kahn has ruled out a summer transfer swoop for Erling Haaland
  • The new CEO says a ‘€100m package is unimaginable for Bayern at the moment’
  • Haaland has become one of the most sought after player in European football
  • He has scored 53 goals in all competitions for Dortmund since his arrival in 2020
  • But Kahn believes Robert Lewandowski can carry Bayern for the next few years

Bayern Munich’s new CEO Oliver Kahn has ruled out a summer transfer swoop for Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland.

Haaland has become one of the most sought after player in European football – having scored 53 goals in all competitions for Dortmund since his arrival in January 2020.

However, Kahn – who will succeed Karl-Heinz Rummenigge as CEO later this year – says a ‘€100m package’ is unimaginable for Bayern at the moment and that they can rely on Robert Lewandowski instead.’

Bayern’s new CEO Oliver Kahn has ruled out a summer transfer swoop for Erling Haaland

Kahn has said those who speak of the transfer rumours ‘don’t understand the situation’.

The current Bayern director, who will take over as CEO, told Bild: ‘Sorry, whoever spoke about that didn’t understand the situation.

‘A package that costs – as we heard – over €100m is unimaginable for FC Bayern at the moment.’

Bundesliga outfit Dortmund are adamant that they will keep their star man – who is contract to the club until 2024.

However, super-agent Mino Raiola was pictured in Spain with Haaland’s father earlier this year to meet with LaLiga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Premier League trio Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United have also all been linked with bringing the striker to England.

Regardless of Haaland’s situation, Kahn is confident Bayern will continue to score goals with Lewandowski in the squad.

He said: ‘Robert still has a two-year contract here. His performances cannot be questioned. He’s scored 39 goals [in the Bundesliga] so far!

‘Just for that, we don’t have to think about Haaland today. Robert can keep this level for a few more years.’

Lewandowski has scored a total of 46 goals across all competitions this season and is expected to add more to his tally.

Thomas Tuchel lauds  ‘crazy’ Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

‘It’s hard to be really mad with the guy… he has a big heart’: Thomas Tuchel lauds ‘crazy’ Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as he fondly recalls their time at Borussia Dortmund, even if his timekeeping was awful!

  • Thomas Tuchel and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be reunited on Wednesday
  • The Chelsea boss will come up against the Arsenal striker at Stamford Bridge
  • The pair were manager and player at Borussia Dortmund between 2015 and 2017

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s pace and engaging personality made a lasting impression on Thomas Tuchel.

So did his punctuality. Or rather his lack of it, which prompted Tuchel to develop a ploy to make sure the striker arrived on time when they worked together for two years at Borussia Dortmund.

‘It was a pure pleasure to have him in the squad,’ said Chelsea’s head coach, as he prepared to face Arsenal and Aubameyang at Stamford Bridge, on Wednesday night.

Thomas Tuchel has delivered a glowing reference ahead of facing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

‘A fantastic striker, a fantastic finisher but more than that, a fantastic worker off the pitch. Always with a smile on his face. Very, very honest. A bit of a crazy guy but nice crazy.

‘He did not miss one single training session in two years. Maybe he arrived five minutes late, that can happen with him, but if he does this, he is in a hurry, he has excuses, he is sorry and he has still a smile on his face. That’s him, and it’s hard to be really mad with the guy. He has a big heart.

‘When we wanted him to be on time, we told him the meeting was 10.45am when the meeting was 11am so there was a good chance he would be there with everyone else. You could hear his car from a kilometre away. We could prepare everything, start the video because he will arrive soon.

‘I still don’t know how he managed to keep the driving licence in his pocket because from the sound of the car I don’t know if he was always on the speed limit.’

In March, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta axed Aubameyang for the derby against Tottenham because he was late for a team meeting.

Tuchel and Aubameyang enjoyed a fruitful period together while at Borussia Dortmund

It has been a difficult campaign for the Arsenal captain. The goals have dried up and his flow has been disrupted, first missing games when his mother suffered a health scare and, later, when he caught malaria while on international duty with Gabon.

In Dortmund with Tuchel he thrived, scoring 79 goals in 95 appearances from 2015-17, including the winner, a penalty, in the German Cup final in 2017.

‘He delivered an unbelievable amount of goals,’ said Tuchel. ‘His speed was unique in the Bundesliga and he was a crucial player.’

Chelsea’s head coach admits surprise that the 31-year-old has not collected more major trophies. ‘Yes, because he is a winner,’ he said. ‘I never had a feeling he lacks a certain edge of mentality. But clearly he cannot do it alone. He also needs a top squad to play in to compete for the highest level.

The Gabon striker has endured a tough season at Arsenal since signing his new contract

The Gabon striker has endured a tough season at Arsenal since signing his new contract

‘In my experiences with Auba, you could push him to the limit and he was always up for a challenge, open to the next step, open to stay hungry, never lazy, never satisfied with one goal, two goals, always going for a third. I had a strong feeling that he is a real winner and you can rely on him.’

Tuchel refused to offer his thoughts on Aubameyang’s recent struggles at Arsenal. ‘That would not be correct,’ he insisted, and he is not sure they will work together again.

But he is looking forward to tonight’s reunion. ‘We exchange messages when one of us has a big win,’ said Tuchel. ‘In some ways, it feels like he will always be my player, so you want him to succeed and have a good time. It will be nice to see him because he’s always on for a hug and it’s nice to see him laugh, but, of course, we want to stop him.’

Erling Haaland ‘WILL play for Borussia Dortmund next season’ insists club sporting director

Erling Haaland ‘WILL play for Borussia Dortmund next season’ despite interest from Chelsea, Man United and Real Madrid, insists sporting director Sebastian Kehl… with Norwegian superstar believed to ‘completely identify’ with the German club

  • Borussia Dortmund are confident striker Erling Haaland will stay this summer
  • Haaland, 20, has a suite of top clubs looking to buy him for £150million-plus
  • But Dortmund director Sebastian Kehl said Haaland ‘identifies’ with the club

Erling Haaland will not leave Borussia Dortmund this summer despite a host of suitors circling with potential £150million-plus bids, according to a top club executive.

Widely expected to be one of the hottest transfer prospects this summer, talk of Haaland’s departure from Dortmund was ignited by his agent Mino Raiola and his father going on a tour of Europe and meeting with several clubs to discuss the 20-year-old’s future.

Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea are just some of the big names that are chasing Haaland’s signature.

Dortmund sporting director Kehl (pictured) said Haaland 'completely identifies' with the club

But Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl insists he is confident that Haaland will remain at the club.

‘I understand that Erling Haaland will play for Borussia Dortmund in the new season,’ Kehl told the Sport1 broadcaster’s Doppelpass program.

‘Erling totally agrees. I see him every day and I can say that he completely identifies with the club,’ he said.

Haaland's Dortmund future may depend on whether they make it into the Champions League

Haaland’s Dortmund future may depend on whether they make it into the Champions League

Despite Kehl’s assurances, reports in Germany earlier this week insisted hopes of keeping Haaland hinge on Dortmund securing Champions League football for next season, otherwise the situation around the striker will become ‘unreal’.

Haaland has a £65million release clause which becomes active next summer and while Dortmund are determined to keep the striker for at least one more season, there is a growing sense the Champions League holds the key.

The Norwegian is this season’s Champions League top scorer with 10 goals, and has amassed a staggering 37 goals in 38 games in all competitions.

Liverpool and Man United on alert as Jadon Sancho ‘has gentleman’s agreement to quit Dortmund’

Liverpool and Manchester United put on red alert after Borussia Dortmund chief Michael Zorc confirms Jadon Sancho and the German club have a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ over a move… but Erling Haaland does NOT

  • Jadon Sancho is being touted for a move from Borussia Dortmund in summer
  • The German side are in danger of missing-out on Champions League football
  • Manchester United fell short in a desperate pursuit of the winger last year
  • Michael Zorc has revealed Sancho has an agreement which allows him to leave

The likelihood of Jadon Sancho quitting Borussia Dortmund in the summer has just shot up, with club chief Michael Zorc confirming they’ll be willing to let the star go.

Manchester United came close to snatching Sancho last year but the Old Trafford side couldn’t match Dortmund’s final requirements. Both Ole Gunnar Solskajer’s side and Liverpool are being linked to another attempt this summer.

With the German side enduring a frustrating season, finding themselves in danger of failing to qualify for the Champions League, both Sancho and Erling Haaland will be considering their futures.

‘We already had a gentlemen’s agreement with Jadon last year that he can switch under certain conditions,’ sporting director Zorc told ARD .

‘He’s been with us for a couple of years. However, this agreement does not exist with Erling.’

Zorc also confirmed the reason for United’s pursuit falling short last season: ‘In the end, the requirements were not met.’

Amid Dortmund’s poor form, the two future Ballon d’Or prospects have continued their stunning output. Sancho has 12 goals and 18 assists, Haaland has hit the back of the net 37 times.

The Norwegian’s agent, Mino Raiola, has already undertaken a tour of Europe’s elite clubs to drum-up interest in the 20-year-old,  who won’t be content with Europa League football next term.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez insisted they can’t afford Haaland after his Super League plot fell through, though Raiola replied: ‘They have money to sign him.’

Erling Haaland misses out on Borussia Dortmund’s DFB Cup semi-final with ‘slight muscular problem’

Erling Haaland misses out on Borussia Dortmund’s DFB Cup semi-final against Holstein Kiel with ‘slight muscular problem’ in huge blow to BVB’s chances for silverware

  • Erling Haaland is to miss Borussia Dortmund’s DFB Cup semi final through injury
  • The star striker, 20, has a ‘slight muscular problem’ according to a club tweet
  • Dortmund played down concerns, writing ‘get well soon Erl!’ in the message

Borussia Dortmund have suffered a huge blow ahead of their DFB Cup semi final as Erling Haaland is missing out through injury.

The superstar centre-forward, who has scored an astonishing 37 goals in 38 games so far this season, will sit out Dortmund’s crunch match because of a ‘slight muscular problem’, the club said in a tweet.

Having released the teamsheet ahead of Saturday night’s match, Dortmund had to clarify Haaland’s glaring omission from the squad shortly after.

‘Erling Haaland is not in today’s squad as a result of a slight muscular problem. Get well soon, Erl!’ the tweet reads.

The tone of the message sought to tampen down concerns of any long-term issue for Haaland, with Dortmund describing the injury as ‘slight’ and trying to appear casual by wishing the striker well.

The news is a huge blow for Dortmund, whose DFB Cup run is their only chance of securing a trophy in a difficult season.

The club sit fifth in the Bundesliga table, one place and currently one point outside the Champions League positions.

News of Haaland’s injury will have put several clubs on alert, as the 20-year-old Norwegian is arguable the hottest transfer prospect this summer, with the likes of Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona all in the hunt to sign him.

Chelsea ‘open to selling out-of-favour striker Tammy Abraham for £40m this summer’

Chelsea ‘open to selling out-of-favour striker Tammy Abraham for £40m this summer with Olivier Giroud also set to leave as they look to raise funds for Erling Haaland or Romelu Lukaku’

  • Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham could reportedly be allowed to leave for £40m
  • The 23-year-old has fallen down pecking order under Thomas Tuchel at Blues
  • Veteran striker Olivier Giroud is also set to depart to get his wages off the books
  • Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland or Inter Milan’s Romelu Lukaku are targets

Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham could reportedly be allowed to leave the club for £40million this summer.

The 23-year-old has fallen down the pecking order under Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge and has struggled to force his way into the German’s plans since returning from injury earlier this month.

The Blues are prepared to sell the English striker if they receive a bid of at least £40m, according to The Telegraph

As is Inter Milan's Romelu Lukaku

Chelsea are interested in signing strikers Erling Haaland (L) or Romelu Lukaku (R) this summer

The report claims that the Blues are keen to offload Abraham and veteran striker Olivier Giroud in order to raise funds for Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland or Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku.

Allowing Abraham and Giroud, who is also out of favour, to depart would reportedly remove £200,000 per week off the books.

Abraham has returned from an ankle injury sustained at the end of February, but he was left out of the FA Cup semi-final win against Manchester City and played just three minutes at the weekend in the win against West Ham.

The forward last appeared in Tuchel’s starting XI on February 20 but he was brought off at half-time in Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Southampton.

It’s no secret that Chelsea are interested in in-demand striker Haaland or even a reunion with Lukaku, who was shipped out on loan during his three years at the club between 2011 and 2014.

Tuchel has trusted the No 9 responsibilities with £53m summer signing Timo Werner despite his struggles in front of goal. Werner did end his two-month goal drought last weekend but missed a glorious chance in their 1-1 draw with Real Madrid on Tuesday night.

Veteran Blues striker Olivier Giroud is also set to depart to get his wages off the books

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand claims Abraham is being treated unfairly by Tuchel in comparison to Werner.

He told BT Sport: ‘It’s crazy. A young player, does he get the time that a Timo Werner, new signing gets when they come in?’

‘And they’re not treated with as much care and understanding of their character and cotton wool that a new signing gets.

‘A new signing gets the investment but you’re investing in a young player. A young player adds so much value to a team but they don’t ever get that time or patience that a new signing gets.

Abraham, 23, has fallen down the pecking order with Timo Werner used by Thomas Tuchel

‘Tammy wouldn’t get the time Timo gets. He [Werner] scored at the weekend but he missed a sitter at the weekend. He missed another tonight.

‘If you’re Tammy, you’re sitting there going, “Right OK, I’ve got to be playing at least at the weekend to get myself in the shop window for the next game against Madrid.”

Abraham is Chelsea’s top scorer with 12 goals this campaign, which have come from 31 appearances across all competitions. By comparison, Werner has scored 11 goals in 44 matches this season.

Ferdinand’s fellow BT Sport pundit Steve McManaman added: ‘Everybody labels Timo Werner as not a natural finisher and yet again tonight it’s been proven right to a certain extent,’ McManaman said.

‘You still feel he will not score enough goals. That first one today, it was a good save but he should’ve scored, he should’ve set Chelsea on their way to a victory tonight.

‘If you’re Tammy Abraham, or Giroud, you’re thinking, “what do I need to do to play tonight?”

Liverpool ‘may swoop for Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho this summer if Mohamed Salah departs

Liverpool ‘may swoop for Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho this summer if Mohamed Salah leaves Anfield… with Manchester United target’s displays in Germany ‘having not gone unnoticed’ by Jurgen Klopp’

  • Liverpool could sign Jadon Sancho if Mohamed Salah leaves Anfield this summer
  • Jurgen Klopp has been impressed by the Borussia Dortmund winger’s displays
  • Salah has previously refused to rule out leaving Anfield for Spain’s big two clubs
  • England ace Sancho was heavily linked with a move to Man United last summer

Jurgen Klopp could attempt to sign Jadon Sancho if Mohamed Salah leaves Liverpool this summer.

That’s according to German outlet Bild, via Sport Witness, who claim the performances of Borussia Dortmund winger have ‘not gone unnoticed’ by the Reds boss.

Klopp may be in the market for a forward if he loses Salah at the end of the season. The Egyptian has repeatedly refused to rule out leaving Anfield for Spain in the near future.

The Borussia Dortmund winger has reportedly caught the attention of the Reds' boss

Jurgen Klopp (L) could attempt to sign Jadon Sancho (R) if Mohamed Salah leaves this summer

In December, he admitted he could play for Barcelona or Real Madrid later in his career and he made similar comments in an interview in March, where he was asked whether he would be keen to experience Spanish football.

He told Marca: ‘I hope to be able to play for many more years.

‘Why not? No one knows what’s going to happen in the future. So… maybe one day, yes. It’s not up to me.’

When asked about his relationship with Klopp, Salah added: ‘It’s a normal relationship between two professionals. That’s how I’d describe it.’

While Liverpool have suffered a disappointing campaign, Salah has once again been in good form.

The winger has 29 goals in 46 games across all competitions and is just one strike behind Premier League top scorer Harry Kane.

If Salah were to depart Merseyside, Bild believe Klopp could turn to Sancho as a replacement.

The winger was wanted by Manchester United last summer but refused to pay Dormtund’s asking price of over £100million.

The England international has made a name for himself in Germany since leaving Manchester City’s academy in 2017.

The 21-year-old has managed 45 goals and 56 assists across the last three seasons.

Both Salah and Sancho are under contract until 2023. Liverpool announced on Tuesday that they are are £88m worse off than last year with a £46m pre-tax loss following a year of matches behind closed doors. It is understood the impact of the pandemic will cost the club £120m until fans are allowed back into Anfield.

Therefore, any move for Sancho would likely need a big-money sale of one of their current stars.

Ilkay Gundogan made Jurgen Klopp ‘REALLY ANGRY’ and was told: ‘do whatever the f*** you want to do’

Ilkay Gundogan recalls the moment he made his former Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp ‘REALLY ANGRY’ and was told: ‘do whatever the f*** you want to do’ after Man City star refused to sit out a training session due to a hamstring issue

  • Ilkay Gundogan signed for Borussia Dortmund in 2011 under boss Jurgen Klopp
  • However, the pair came to blows in the midfielder’s second season at the club
  • The midfielder had refused to sit out a training session due to a hamstring issue
  • Klopp was frustrated at Gundogan, shouting at him before ‘slamming the door’
  • The pair did make up on the pitch with Gundogan admitting he ‘learnt a lesson’

Ilkay Gundogan has outlined the details behind the argument that saw former Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp shout ‘do whatever the f**k you want to do!’.

Having been signed from Nurnberg in the summer of 2011, Gundogan and Klopp came to blows during the midfielder’s second season at the club.

The German international refused to sit out a training session due to a hamstring issue – causing Klopp to storm out of the room, ‘slamming the door behind him’.

Ilkay Gundogan signed for Borussia Dortmund in 2011 under former manager Jurgen Klopp

Speaking of the incident, Gundogan told The Players Tribune: ‘I once managed to make Jurgen Klopp angry. Like, really angry.

‘It was in my second season at Dortmund. We were trailing in the Bundesliga, but we had a shot at the Champions League. The staff had this rule that if you felt bad before a training session, you had to report it to the team doctor. That way we would avoid injuries, and Jurgen would know that you might not be able to train.

‘So one morning I woke up and felt my hamstring a bit. Did I have a muscle problem, or was I just tired? I couldn’t tell. I probably should have texted the doctor. But I thought, ‘It’s probably gonna be alright’.

‘Like always, I came to the training ground an hour before the session started. And just to be sure, I asked the doctor to take a look at my hamstring.’

The Manchester City midfielder refused to sit out of training despite the doctors concerns.

The medical staff were adamant that no risks could be taken and that the German manager needed to informed.

However, Gundogan insisted he would be fine to complete the session and refused to listen to the advice he was given – much to Klopp’s dismay.

He said: ‘Jurgen came in and he was not happy. I was trying to find a way out of it, even though I knew I was wrong. Jurgen kept saying that we couldn’t take any risks. I kept saying that I could train.

‘And then he snapped. You know when he gets these intense eyes and grits his teeth?

‘He gave me that look and shouted, ‘DO WHATEVER THE F*** YOU WANT TO DO!’ Then he slammed the door behind him.’

The pair did, however, make up shortly after the incident by hugging it out on the pitch.

Gundogan said: ‘About half an hour later, I put my boots on and walked on to the pitch. Jurgen came up next to me,’ the 30-year-old added. ‘I was expecting a lecture, but he put his arm around me.

‘He said, ‘My friend, do you know why I was so angry? I just care about you. And I don’t want you to get injured.’ Then he gave me a big hug.

‘I was shocked. We had had this fight, and now he was talking to me the way a father might talk to his son.’

Gundogan also admitted that the experience ‘taught him a lesson’, saying: ‘Jurgen taught me a lesson that day: Always try to be honest. Both with others and yourself.’

Erling Haaland ‘will LEAVE Borussia Dortmund if they miss out on Champions League football’

Erling Haaland ‘WILL leave Borussia Dortmund if they miss out on Champions League football’… with Chelsea and Manchester United among the clubs on alert over striker’s uncertain future

  • Borussia Dortmund are determined to keep hold of star man Erling Haaland
  • Yet reports in Germany say it is ‘unreal’ for him to stay if Dortmund miss top four
  • Dortmund are currently outside of the Champions League spots by a single point
  • Chelsea and Man United are two clubs keen on landing Haaland this summer

Borussia Dortmund’s hopes of keeping hold of Erling Haaland hinge on them securing Champions League football for 2021-22, according to reports in Germany.

Bild say that the situation around the Chelsea and Manchester United target is ‘unreal’ if Dortmund miss out on the top four and subsequently the Champions League.

Haaland has a £65million release clause which becomes active next summer and while Dortmund are determined to keep the striker for at least one more season, there is a growing sense the Champions League holds the key.

Dortmund currently sit fifth in the Bundesliga table, one point adrift of Eintracht Frankfurt in the final Champions League spot.

Haaland and Co have three games remaining to overthrow their top four rivals with games against RB Leipzig, Mainz and Bayer Leverkusen.

But the Norwegian would be forgiven if he was less concerned about missing the competition given all of his suitors are prepared to play in Europe’s top competition next season.

Haaland is this season’s top scorer in the Champions League with 10 goals, two ahead of nearest challenger Kylian Mbappe, who can add to his tally in two semi-final legs against Manchester City.

The Dortmund striker is in high demand and is expected to command a transfer fee of at least £100million as well as wages of around £30m a year.

Haaland has scored 37 goals in all competitions already this season and is widely seen as the most sought-after No 9 this summer.

Manchester City, who are losing Sergio Aguero, Manchester United and Chelsea are seen as three potential landing spots if he chooses to come to the Premier League.

Any move would not come cheap, however, and earlier this month Sebastian Kehl, ex-Dortmund player and now their head of licensed player division, reiterated the board’s focus on keeping the Norwegian.

Kehl told Sky Germany: ‘Our position is clear – we are planning with Erling. We are very relaxed about that.

‘Of course, we have been following the situation. But we had a very, very good talk with Mino and his [Haaland’s] father just recently.

‘I don’t want to go into those talks now. From a certain point on, we may no longer be able to influence what the future will bring.

‘I have seen the boy in training in the last two days and I have seen how hungry he is and the sparkle is in his eyes. We are very ambitious, we need Erling to achieve our sporting goals, and we have made that clear.’
