Incredible moment rescuers save a very lucky dog from an unmanned boat found spinning wildly 10km off the coast – after the skipper mysteriously disappeared

  • An unmanned boat was spotted spinning out-of-control 10km off the WA coast
  • Water Police responded to the incident at about 2pm on Wednesday
  • Police rescued a dog from the boat and scoured the area for occupant of vessel

A dog has been saved by police after he was discovered on an unmanned boat  found spinning wildly 10km off the Western Australian coast.  

Water Police responded to the incident near Alkimos, north of Perth, at 2pm on Wednesday after a fisherman spotted the dinghy circling out-of-control. 

The small boat was reportedly travelling at high speed for up to 40 minutes before crews were able to fasten it and hop on board.

Remarkably, vision shows an officer carry a dog found on the dinghy, before passing it to a colleague on the police vessel. 

Emergency crews continued to scour the water for the owner of the boat.

‘A marine search involving Water Police, Department of Fire and Emergency Services Marine Rescue, Joint Rescue Coordination Centre and Police Airwing is continuing for the occupant of the abandoned dinghy,’ a police spokeswoman said.

‘Police and DFES State Emergency Services are also conducting a land search along the coastline.’

The dinghy was recovered and towed to the Two Rocks Marina.
