Australians brace for FREEZING weekend with autumn sun to come to a halt in Tasmania, Victoria

Australians are bracing for the autumn sun to come to a sudden halt this weekend as a cold blast of air sweeps across the country and the mercury plunges to -5C.

The Bureau of Meteorology has warned a cold front is moving eastwards across the south-east coast – bringing icy, wet and snowy conditions to millions of residents.

The chilly conditions will last four days and affect New South Wales, South Australia, the ACT, Victoria and Tasmania, the bureau said.

Sub-zero temperatures are expected to hit Tasmania, with snow to hit areas with an elevation as low of 500m.

The bureau said snow will likely fall in Victoria and New South Wales in areas with an elevation of 700m and 900m respectively.

Lower than average temperatures have been predicted for the next few days, as a trough and cold front cross the southeast.

Luke Johnston from the Bureau of Meteorology told Daily Mail Australia the weather system would hit Tasmania the hardest.

A Weatherzone temperature map showed a channel of cold air forecast to pass Tasmania on the western side at Saturday at 1pm.

But the meteorologist said the south-east of the mainland will share the same frontal system, with another cold front to hit on Sunday.

‘The cold burst is going to last the weekend, but during next week things are becoming more stable and will be dominated by high pressure systems’, he said.

The first in a series of cold fronts crossed Victoria on Thursday, with further fronts hitting  early on Friday, Saturday and Monday.

Victorians should brace for showers throughout the weekend, with moderate to strong winds and a potential thunderstorm to hit the south coast on Saturday.

Residents in NSW and the ACT will need to rug up this weekend as a high pressure system near Western Australia continues to drift east.

‘A cold front will skim across the state’s south tonight and Friday, followed by a second front on Saturday bringing markedly cooler conditions to the region’, the Bureau said.

Sydney will see temperatures dip below 10C over the weekend, as will Melbourne, Adelaide, and Hobart.

Canberra could see temperatures plummet as low as -5C in the CBD on Sunday as the cold front moves across the nation’s capital.

The Northern Territory and Perth will see average temperatures throughout the week.

A ‘blizzard’ has lashed Australia’s ski resorts on Tuesday night as the nation is plunged into an early winter

The stormy weather experienced at the start of the week came as millions of Australians were plunged into an early winter.

In the Bureau’s outlook for June to August, rainfall this winter is expected to be above average for most of inland Australia but will remain drier than average in western WA and northern QLD.

Winter days are likely to be warmer in the north and the south, while winter nights are likely to be warmer than average across the country.

Both Thredbo and Perisher ski resorts received a 10cm dump of snow at their village level alone, with much deeper powder at the top of the runs.

Temperatures fell to near zero, but even colder weather will see massive snowfall across the NSW snowy mountains over the weekend.

Experts are predicting a strong system moving across the area over the weekend, which could result in another huge snow dump to the area.

NRL star Dylan Walker pleads GUILTY to drunkenly assaulting a man outside Sydney pizza shop

NRL star Dylan Walker pleads GUILTY to drunkenly assaulting a man outside a pizza shop

  • Dylan Walker pleads guilty to assaulting a pizza shop worker in Sydney in 2020
  • The footy star was charged after he tried to get into woman’s car sparking brawl
  • His defence lawyer said he had been intoxicated when he got into the fight

NRL star Dylan Walker will be sentenced on Friday after pleading guilty to assault.

The Manly Sea Eagles centre, 26 was arrested in November after assaulting a man who came to the aid of his sister.

Walker had allegedly tried to get into the woman’s car that was parked outside Narraweena’s Little Italy restaurant on Sydney’s northern beaches.

Walker pleaded guilty to the charge on Friday morning in Downing Centre Local Court, avoiding a two-day trial that was set to take place.

Another assault charge was withdrawn.

Walker’s lawyer, Richard Pontello SC, asked for the court to take into account his client’s ‘background of significant childhood deprivation” when sentencing him.

He said the assault was committed while Walker was intoxicated.

‘Alcohol use is an attempt at emotional regulation and managing the distress caused by the childhood deprivation,’ he said.

Walker is undergoing counselling and has not drunk in public since the incident, he said.

The former South Sydney Rabbitoh was stood down in early 2019 as he fought the accusation he’d assaulted his fiancee, Alexandra Ivkovic, in December 2018.

In that incident, Ms Ivkovic called triple zero and accused the NRL player of pulling her hair and causing her to fall as she held a baby.

She recanted the story later that night, saying she’d overreacted.

Walker returned to the field after being found not guilty by a magistrate in May 2019.

TikTok star reveals her wild night with Aussie Formula One driver Daniel Ricciardo in Ibiza after he invited her to a private boat party… and admits she had no idea who he was

A TikTok star has recalled a wild night she once shared in Ibiza with Australian Formula One racing driver Daniel Ricciardo.

On Thursday, Sara Ayter – who has racked up over 4.6k followers – described Daniel, 31, as the ‘coolest human’ after he apparently invited her and two pals to a boat party upon meeting on the nearby island of Formentera in 2019.

In a several videos, Sara gushed that Daniel had a ‘huge heart’ before explaining that she had no idea who he was until long after the party was over.

‘We were taking pictures in Beso Beach, and three guys came up to us and said they were going back to Ibiza on their private boat and asked us if we wanted to join,’ she began.

‘We didn’t know what to do, but we ended up going as we said “we only live once”.’

After enjoying a thrilling ride around the islands, the trio were then asked to join Daniel and his pals for a house party – and she started to believe he was famous thanks to seeing his ‘blue tick on Instagram’.

‘Then we ended up going to their house – it was the best house I’ve ever been to,’ she added.

‘We had drinks, we played games, we stayed over. The day after I was swimming in the pool and Daniel was the only one awake. I was cold and he asked me if I wanted his shirt, so I swam with his shirt.’

While there’s no implication that anything romantic happened between the pair, Sara was incredibly complimentary of how the star behaved towards her and her friends.

‘He was the entire time making sure we were alright. They were so, so nice. He was the coolest human,’ she said.

‘Daniel was the entire time dancing, making jokes, smiling. Like has a huge heart. Now we finally know who he is!’

Meet Queensland’s youngest drag queen Candy Featherbottom

Meet Australia’s youngest drag queen – 13-year-old ‘Candy Featherbottom’

  • Queensland’s youngest drag queen Candy Featherbottom is 13 years old
  • Logan Kelly was just 10 years old when he began performing as Candy
  • Logan, who loves performing, said his biggest dream is to be a triple-threat actor

Queensland’s youngest drag queen Candy Featherbottom is a 13-year-old boy who has a passion for performing – and he is challenging perceptions along the way.

Logan Kelly was just 10 years old when he began performing as Candy at North Ipswich Bowls Club, south-west of Brisbane.

‘It was just a spark that flew in me … it’s just another way of acting and performing for me,’ he told the ABC

Pictured: Queensland’s youngest drag queen Candy Featherbottom

The singer, dancer and aspiring actor became intrigued by drag after watching a family-friendly performance at the local bowls club by group Taboo.

The queens perform to the packed crowd once a month.

‘Candy is a very … unique character, she is really strong … she definitely feels energetic, excited,’ Logan said.

Logan said his biggest dream is to be a triple-threat actor and he doesn’t want to be ‘pigeon-holed’ as a drag queen just because ‘that’s what Candy is’.

Karl Eastaughffe launched Taboo a decade ago, thinking it would be short-term gig but the club has gone from strength to strength.

‘When Taboo started, I was only giving it two to three years max … but 10 years later, we’re going absolutely strong,’ Mr Eastaughffe said.

Taboo is one of the few family-friendly drag clubs in Australia and the queens have helped mentor Logan as he navigates the world of drag.

The personal lives of some of the queens was the subject of a documentary earlier this year – and there are now plans to take Logan’s story even further with full-length feature film.

  • A $49 rug from Bunnings Warehouse is selling out across Australian stores
  • Mum Jennifer recommended the product online and shared a series of photos
  • The white and grey pattered rug filled her living room well
  • The buy is cheaper compared to alternatives from Kmart and Big W

Shoppers are rushing to Bunnings Warehouse to get their hands on a popular $49 rug before it sells out.

Mum Jennifer recommended the affordable buy to others on social media and placed the stylish pattered rug in her living room.

The grey and white design filled the space nicely and matched well with her white furniture, tiles and décor.

The product is also cheaper compared to alternative popular rugs from competitors such as Kmart and Big W.

Mum Jennifer recommended the affordable rug to others on social media and placed the stylish pattered rug in her living room

Not only is the rug a reasonable price, it’s also a decent size of 160cm by 220cm.

The budget product would be ideal for various areas around the home, including home offices and bedrooms.

It’s also one of the cheapest rugs available from the hardware store, with prices ranging from $29 all the way up to $1600.

While the rug currently isn’t listed on the Bunnings Warehouse website, shoppers online have confirmed they’ve seen and bought the product at their local stores.

According to Homes to Love, it’s important to measure the room first to decide whether a rectangular or square rug will fill the space well – as round rugs tend to be a suitable option for smaller rooms.

SNP wins by-election in Airdrie and Shotts

SNP wins by-election in Airdrie and Shotts called after sitting MP opted to swap Westminster for the same seat in Holyrood

  • Anum Qaisar-Javed was elected with 10,129 votes, ahead of Labour’s candidate
  • Kenneth Stevenson came in second with 8,372 votes. Tory candidate got 2,812
  • SNP leader and Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon sent her congratulations

The SNP has won the Airdrie and Shotts by-election, with Anum Qaisar-Javed returned as the new MP for the area.

Ms Javed came in first in the contest, which was sparked by the resignation of MP Neil Gray, who has now swapped Westminster for Holyrood after last week being elected as the MSP for the corresponding seat in the Scottish Parliament.

She polled 10,129 votes, ahead of Labour candidate and local councillor Kenneth Stevenson who came in second with 8,372 votes.

Conservative candidate Ben Callaghan secured 2,812 votes, with Liberal Democrat Stephen Arrundale fourth with 220 votes.

SNP leader and Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon tweeted: ‘Massive congratulations to new @theSNP MP for Airdrie & Shotts, @AnumQaisarJaved’.

The SNP has won the Airdrie and Shotts by-election, with Anum Qaisar-Javed (pictured) returned as the new MP for the area after securing 10,129 votes

There were four other candidates in the by-election, with Neil Manson of the Social Democratic Party getting 151 votes, Jonathan Stanley of the Scottish Unionists 59, Martyn Greene of Reform 45 and Donald MacKay of Ukip 39.

The SNP had a majority of 5,201 when the seat was contested in the 2019 general election, when the turnout was over 62 percent.

This year, there was a swing from SNP to Labour of 2.51 percent, which ultimately proved not to be enough for Labour to win the seat.
